Overview
Neon Green Star Polyps are a bright, fast-growing soft coral with vivid green polyps that extend from a purple mat-like base. When open, the polyps have a grassy appearance and create gentle movement in the tank as they sway in the current. Their bold color stands out under reef lighting and they can quickly cover rockwork, frag plugs, or even the back wall of the aquarium if given the chance. A great option for adding color and coverage without much effort.

Water Parameters
This coral thrives in stable water conditions with regular water changes. Routine water testing helps ensure these needs are consistently met.
- Specific Gravity (Salinity): 1.024-1.026
- Temperature: 75-78 Degrees F
- pH: 8.1-8.4
- Alkalinity: 8-9dKH
- Calcium: 380-450ppm
- Magnesium: 1300-1450ppm
- Nitrate (NO3): 10-30ppm
- Phosphate: 0.01-0.1ppm
- Nitrite (NO2): Undetectable
- Ammonia (NH3): Undetectable
Lighting Requirements
Green Star Polyps usually do best in moderate lighting, around 150-250 PAR, however they can adapt to various light intensities. For those with mixed reef tanks, a PAR meter is invaluable for fine-tuning light levels across different corals, helping ensure each coral gets the right intensity for its needs. This careful setup supports the coral’s vibrant color and long-term health.
Ideal Tank Placement
Green Star Polyps can be placed just about anywhere in the aquarium from directly on the rockwork to the back glass or overflow of the aquarium. Because it's a fast-growing coral, you may want to place it on its own independent rock so it can be easily contained.
Water Flow Requirements
This coral prefers a moderate, steady flow to keep detritus from accumulating. Too much flow may cause them to close.
Aggressiveness and Compatibility
While Green Star Polyps don't have sweeper tentacles that will sting neighboring corals, they can grow quickly and will start encroaching on surrounding corals if they aren't given enough space.
Feeding and Nutrition
Primarily photosynthetic, Green Star Polyps can thrive on light alone. They will, like most corals, benefit from occasional additions of Amino Acids like CoralAmino that can enhance growth and coloration.
Growth Rate and Pattern
Green Star Polyps grow relatively quickly. If you don't want them taking over your rockwork, try placing them on their own rock island to contain their growth to an area that's easy to keep at bay.
Acclimation Process
Acclimation is essential for corals to adjust to their new environment. For a full step-by-step process, refer to our Coral Acclimation Guide.
