Check valves allow one directional water flow and are used to prevent back flow and siphoning. These are among the highest quality check valves to be found. Relative to other types and manufacturers of check valves, these valves create minimal pressure loss. They are commonly used on return pump outputs to prevent water overflowing the sump in the event of a power outage, pump failure or maintenance.

  • Slip x Slip
  • True union connection can be screwed and unscrewed for replacement of maintenance.

The true union check valve is specially designed to be disassembled by unscrewing the nuts in line leaving the tail pieces solvent cemented to the pipe. This true union allows you to remove the body for repairs, or cleaning, even providing the opportunity to change the body or spring.

The golden rule of plumbing is that every job takes three trips to the store. While this can be frustrating locally it can be much worse when shopping online. Being short a fitting or two can delay a plumbing project for days. Here are some quick tips to avoid this.

  • Plan your plumbing on paper
  • Don't skimp on unions. Unions allow for easy breakdown and maintenance as well as remove the need for precise elbow placement. Use them as often as possible.
  • When in doubt order extra. We happily accept returns for a full refund (less shipping) on all unused fittings within one month of purchase. A few extra bucks in return shipping is less frustrating than a project delay.

Product Questions

Are there unions interchangeable with the same size Spears version?
Question by: Mark Lewis on Apr 17, 2020, 1:37 PM
Hi Mark,

It is very unlikely that plumbing parts from different manufacturers a going to have interchangeable parts. Your best bet is going to be sticking with the spears brand but if your existing valve is significantly older than the one you are trying to swap fittings with there is still a chance it wont match up do to potential design changes that happen over time.

I hope this helps!
Happy Reefing

Is it possible to get a True Union Utility Swing Check Valve in 1/2 inch, threaded?
Question by: Robert McNichols on Feb 18, 2017, 2:58 PM
Thanks! Unfortunately, we do not carry these in threaded versions. Your best option would be to incorporate a Union directly after and before each end of the check valve. :-)

hi from where do you get the measurements to know the size is the check valve?

Hi Santiago,
I am not sure that I understand your question correctly, but the size listed on all fittings is the nominal size. It isn't a literal measurement but a size that represents the fittings compatibility. For example a 1" gate valve will fit a 1" pipe, will fit a 1" check valve, and so on. Even though none of them actually literally measure 1"

Hello. I would like to know if this check valve can be installed horizontally? Or must it always be in the vertical position? Thanks

I have the flexible 3/4" vinyl tubing for the return line, will I be able to use this 3/4" swing check valve for my setup? thanks.
Question by: Lloyd on Nov 26, 2013, 3:55 AM
Hi Lloyd,
The swing check valve has slip PVC connections intended to be glued into rigid pipe. It won't connect out of the box but you could use some barb x pvc connections to add barbs to the check valve.
