Design

The new innovative design of the H80 integrated the heatsink for the LEDs right into the body of the light allowing for high heat transfer without the need for a fan. The fanless design makes the light perfect for humid environments where refugiums can usually be found.

Dense Matrix LED

Kessil has spent many years developing and researching LEDs, and they have developed a unique array that they build in-house, packing numerous diodes into an area no larger than a dime. This creates a nice even blend of colors and produces a very broad spread of light. With such a tight pack of LEDs, the individual colors are thoroughly mixed before the light even leaves the optic lens reducing hot spots and providing uniform coloration throughout the tank.

Kessil Logicâ„¢

After many years of R&D, Kessil Logicâ„¢ can be found on all of Kessil's LED lights. The H80 allows you to fine tune the overall color and intensity that the light puts out while keeping a spectrum that will be optimal for algae growth and vitality. Throughout the multiple spectrums and intensities, Kessil Logic keeps the overall light output balanced. Compared to traditional refugium lights, the Kessil H80 is years ahead of the competition and is our choice for a refugium light.

Product Questions

To use the kessil in a sump for macro does it come on and off once the light is set or do I need a controller or other type timer?
Question by: Carl tolar on Mar 8, 2023, 9:53 AM
Thanks for the question! The light itself will turn on to the set color/intensity on the dials. For it to turn on/off at specified times you will need to use the Spectral Controller X or use a standard outlet timer to designate a time for on/off.

What is the outside of the unit made of. I’m concerned if it’s metal that it may rust.
Question by: Michael Sebar on Feb 19, 2022, 8:13 AM
These do have a protective coating and are designed to be exposed to saltwater conditions and would not rust. If we need a definitive answer on what they are specifically coated in I would recommend reaching out to Kessil directly! Happy reefing :)

Can I use this light for a display tank with seahorses and also grow gorgonians?
Question by: Jorge Aranguthy on Oct 21, 2019, 7:54 PM
Hey there!

As long as you can cover your tank with the spread of the light it will be fine for that application.

Take care
Answer by: Thomas Billington on Oct 22, 2019, 4:39 PM
can this light be used with the new kessil X remote? I have 2 X360 Tuna and was wondering if i could have all three lights programmed
Question by: Reginald Self on Aug 27, 2019, 10:14 PM
Hey there!

Unfortunately the x controller cannot control the H series lights. You have to get the H series controller.

Take care!

I have a 24G cube with a 10 gallon two chamber sump. I have my chaeto growing in the slightly smaller return section. 6" wide and about 10-12" long at a depth of 8" water level. Would this light be strong enough. I have read a lot of mixed opinions on the H380 vs H80. I just feel the H380 may be overkill and I only need to compete against an AI prime HD with your recommended lighting schedule set. Thanks for the help.
Question by: Hunter Villarreal on Jan 6, 2018, 1:41 AM
Thanks for contacting BRS!
A single H80 would be more than enough light for your refugium. Have a great day!

Do I get the unit link cable for the controller. My A360s did?
Question by: Justin Johnston on Dec 26, 2017, 7:11 PM
Thanks for reaching out to BRS!

Unfortunately, the Kessil H80 does not come with a unit link cable.

Is this compatible with the Apex?
Question by: James Sparkman on Nov 27, 2017, 6:07 PM
Yes, it can be controlled by an Apex Controller. You will need a Variable Speed Port, and then the Kessil to Neptune Apex Connection Cable to plug the light into the Apex.

What intensity should I use on a 12×8×10 fuge? Can this light burn Cheto?
Question by: Steven Fensterer on Nov 17, 2017, 4:54 AM
If the light is mounted 8"-10" from the surface of the water, you should be able to run the light at 100%. You may want to start a bit lower, around 50% to start out, but gradually over a month or so turn it up to 100% and you should be growing algae very quickly!
Answer by: Charlie on Nov 18, 2017, 9:07 AM
Hello, I was just wondering if this light would be a good fit for the "Small 13" AquaFuge2 External Hang-On Refugium - CPR Aquatics"? I'm wanting to use that fuge on my 29g tall tank but I'm trying to find a good light to use on it to make my fuge better at removing nutrients.
Question by: Dylan Wilkinson on Nov 3, 2017, 12:50 PM
Hey there,

This light could work for that fuge, however it would probably be best used if you found a way to mount it sideways so that it lights the entire chamber top to bottom. :-)
Answer by: Randy on Nov 26, 2017, 9:57 AM
My chato is turning yellow after switching to this light. Anyone else having this problem?
Question by: Jason merrell on Oct 7, 2017, 7:13 PM
Hey there,
Thanks for getting in touch with us in regards to this light. More then likely the intensity of this light is much more then your chaeto is used to having. you will probably experience some die off as this acclimates to the new light intensity. Another thing that is recommended is increasing flow across the chaeto to allow for it to spin and not burn on one spot. Please let me know if there is anything else that we can assist with. Thanks!
