Today on BRStv, we have a brand new episode of our series, BRStv Investigates. In this series, we explore popular reefing theories, products, methods, and what the manuals are missing, with a focus on putting them to the test!
Today we are taking an in-depth look at the Ecotech Radion Xr30 G4 PRO LED Lights. The Ecotech Radions are on their fourth generation (hence the G4) and has been considered the authority in quality LED lighting. We have been looking forward to the extensive testing of the Radion lights with a certain expectation of how they would perform for a reef tank, compared to some of our past results.
Testing the lights we had three major points of interest that we wanted to explore further; coral health, visual appeal, and features. When it comes to coral health, the three top factors are PAR, light distribution, and spectrum. The Xr30 LEDs have the power to produce high PAR numbers, making it one of the brightest lights we have tested to date and if you are looking for a light that can provide the most light, this is the fixture for you. Even though we believe most people will tune down Radion’s overall intensity, just like an Italian sports car, it’s nice to have the power!
Even though Radion lights have more than enough power one of its features is the control interface with the ReefLink Controller. The ReefLink controller lets you wireless connect to the Lights, and even the Vortech and Vectra pumps, giving you full control of your Ecotech equipment from your phone or computer through the EcoSmart Live App. Programming the Radions and tuning them for your reef is pretty easy especially with some of the pre-built modes like A/B Plus mode that the Coral Lab has created. Just select the pre-set mode and then set your overall brightness and you have an instant recipe for success.
Ecotech Marine has numerous mounting options for the Radion series of lights, and if you need to hang, tank mount or to connect multiple LEDs, the RMS mounting systems provide an option for almost any preference. The gloss black body creates a sleek and unobtrusive look over your tank and will be something you will be proud to show off!
If you want to find out the specifics on PAR numbers and Ryan’s overall impression, make sure to watch the video, and if you are adding a Radion or already have Radions, we also share a few tips that may help with your success!
