Carbon and GFO are by far the two most common filter media in the aquarium hobby. Carbon does a fantastic job of removing yellowing pigments from the water as well as odors, making your aquarium water crystal clear and more pleasant on the nose. GFO, on the other hand, is specifically used to reduce phosphate levels in the aquarium.

Note: GFO is very effective, so we recommend starting out with about half the recommended amount and adding more, if necessary.
