Aqua Lifter Vacuum Pump’s unique design lifts water with its diaphragm and flappers – pumping water up to 30” high and at a flow rate of 3½ gallons per hour. Ideal for use as a dosing pump for Kalkwasser, auto top offs, calcium reactors and other aquarium uses.

The Aqua Lifter Vacuum Pump is commonly used for applications that don't require precise dosing. They work best for dosing Kalkwasser or as auto-top off pumps. This unique one-of-a-kind vacuum pump is designed to lift water with its diaphragm and flappers. There are many applications for this pump: drip system for reptile terrariums, watering device for chameleons and small frogs, circulating pump, waterfalls and dosing pumps for reef additives.

Product Questions

I have read that once the pump creates a forward siphon, the siphon will continue if the power is shut off. If I were to use this on a denitrifier, could this cause me any problems?
Question by: Colin Taylor on Nov 24, 2017, 3:12 PM
Hey there,

The Aqua Lifter does not have an anti-siphon built into it. If the outlet side of the tubing is below the water level in the input side, it could develop a constant gravity siphon.

Have a great day!

Because my top off reservoir is slightly above the waterline of my sump, I've observed that my RODI water will continue to flow into the sump due to siphoning, even after the Aqua Lifter Vacuum pump has been turned off by my ATO controller. Is this normal and what should I do to prevent too much water from flowing into my sump?
Question by: Jim on Jun 8, 2017, 5:43 PM
Unfortunately this is a common issue with reservoirs where the level is higher than the sump or delivery area. To avoid this, you can install the output tube in the display somewhere, such as in the overflow box, or alternatively you could install a siphon break in the reservoir tubing (basically a small down-pointing hole in the tube or a fitting which will bleed off a small amount of water when pumping, but then suck in air and break the siphon when the pump is shut off.

Hope this helps!

If I used this as an auto top off for my tank can I also use this with a float? Will it hurt to have the pump running while its not flowing because the water is already contacting the float? If so, what would you recommend as a pump/float option?
Question by: Branden Hess on May 11, 2017, 8:08 AM
Hey there,
We wouldn't normally recommend running a pump continuously against backpressure. This can cause excessive heat buildup and wear on the pump and can greatly affect reliability. Instead, the best way to use this pump would be through a controller or ATO which will turn the pump off when not topping up. A float valve is a fine secondary failsafe, but should not be used as the primary means to cut off flow from the pump. Normally the only constant pressure ATO would be from line pressure from gravity or the pressure generated through and RODI system which isn't relying on a pump to generate the pressure.

Hope this helps!

is there a specified in and out on the pump, does it matter where the tubing is connected
Question by: val sammut on Jan 18, 2017, 11:53 AM
Awesome question! There are two flow indicator arrows on the top of the red fitting. One is for IN and the other for OUT! :-)

Can i use it as an air pump?
Question by: Armando on Dec 29, 2016, 6:40 PM
Great question! Unfortunately, this will not work effectively as an air pump. :-)

Do I need special tubing for this? Or can I just use regular air line tubing for this.
Question by: Anthony on Nov 11, 2016, 10:09 PM
Hey there, thanks for reaching out to us! Our favorite tubing to use with this pump is the 1/4" polyethylene tube listed in the link below. :-)
