Natural Phosphate and Nitrate Control for Reef Tanks up to 500 Gallons!

Algae turf scrubbers are starting to become a more common method of nutrient control, but finding an ATS that works with your setup can be challenging. Not only does it need to be properly sized to handle the bioload, but it also needs to be serviceable. The APIS-300 from Foursquare Aquatics represents a true innovation in design, featuring a slide out drawer that minimizes the need for clearance above the scrubber to access and remove the screen, while also eliminating the necessity to disconnect plumbing during maintenance. The slide out drawer contains the screen, allowing you to just pull out the drawer and bring it to the cleaning location, instead of having to lift a dripping screen up and out from the top like traditional waterfall-style turf scrubbers. Foursquare Aquatics created an an easy to maintain algae turf scrubber with excellent build quality and the filtering capacity to handle a wide range of bioloads.

  • Super safe dual drain system
  • No unions or connections to disconnect for maintenance
  • Includes textured mesh screen
  • Made of strong 1/4" polycarbonate
  • Virtually zero light spill
  • Easy to clean spray bar

No Unions or Bulkhead to Disconnect for Maintenance

Easily the coolest part of the APIS Algae Turf Scrubber series is the slide-out drawer that houses the mesh screen. The innovative design lets you clean the screen without having to move the main body or disconnect any plumbing on that scrubber. Since access to the screen is through the side, this also minimizes the clearance needed above the scrubber. With the way water drains through the drawer, depending on your flow rate, you may not need to even turn off the water into the scrubber since the drains are built into the main body and not the drawer. The lid of the drawer has provisions to hold the mesh screen directly under the included 3/4" spray bar to create a waterfall of water over the screen.

Fast Growth LED Panels

Dual LED fixtures are housed within the main ATS box, and a sealed partition that is made out of clear polycarbonate lets light enter the scrubber chamber, while almost eliminating excessive light spill that is associated with traditional algae turf scrubbers. Each panel has one-hundred 3 watt LEDs that emit a perfect spectrum for rapid algae growth. Of course the LED panels will generate some heat, however, the APIS scrubbers have openings that allow the included onboard fans to breath keeping the lights cool.

Nitrate and Phosphate Reduction

Algae will consume nitrate and phosphate when it grows, and by providing ideal algae growing conditions, your reef tank's nutrients can easily be managed to the point where you really do not need to worry about them anymore. Another benefit to algae scrubbers is that they create such ideal conditions for algae growth, that algae will actually struggle to grow in your display tank. Between the white mesh screen and having lights with the proper spectrum, algae growth can be accelerated to the point where you may need to reduce your photo-cycle to slow down the nutrient uptake. Depending on your system and bioload, algae may need to be harvested anywhere from once a week to every several weeks.
