Aqua Ultraviolet UV Sterilizers will eradicate algae, bacteria, and protozoa without any harmful chemicals or additives!

UV lamps emit a wavelength that will alter and disrupt the DNA or RNA of single-celled organisms. Combining the UV lamp into a large housing allows for maximum contact time with the lamp allowing the sterilizer to be much more efficient. By changing the flow rates through the body of the UV sterilizer lets you target the specific issue you may be having. Most reefers will report that their tanks water clears up overnight with others taking just a couple days, and as long as the UV is running, the water will stay crystal clear! Every AquaUV Sterilizer includes quick-connect unions on the input and output allowing you to quickly remove the entire system from your aquariums plumbing for maintenance, allowing you to mount the UV Sterilizer without having to worry about having room for quartz sleeve and bulb changes.

  • Clear Blue Quartz Cap - Lets you see when the lamp is on
  • EZ-Twist Cap - Quick and easy quartz sleeve maintenance
  • Quick Release Unions - Remove the entire body without any dismantling your plumbing

Great for tanks up to reef tanks up to 355-gallons

Suggested flow rate for saltwater aquarium sterilization - 1066 GPH

How UV Works?

Ultraviolet sterilizers are used in a wide variety of industries for sterilization, and in your saltwater aquarium they work wonders at controlling unwanted bacteria and protozoa at low flow rates, but at higher flow rates can help maintain free-floating algae which are a common cause of cloudy tank water. The UV Lamp emits a UV-C wavelength that will pretty much destroy the internal structure of any single-celled creature that comes in contact with the light. Aqua Ultraviolet sterilizers include a clear-blue cap that lets you see when the lamp is powered on, without having to risk any exposure to the harmful UV-C rays. By varying the flow rate through the sterilizer and increasing or decreasing the amount of time the water is in the body will change what your UV sterilizer will be targeting and we highly suggest using a gate valve or a DC pump to control the flow through the UV sterilizer.

Maintenance

Over time the efficiency of the sterilizer will start to diminish because the lamp is no longer putting out the same amount of energy, but also the quartz sleeve that houses the lamp can become coated with mineral deposits and start to become cloudy. By replacing the quartz sleeve about once per year, and also the UV lamp, your UV sterilizer will work just like it did on day one. Most reefers will know it is time to replace the bulb and sleeve when algae starts to grow on the glass, rock, and other surfaces more rapidly.

What would be the best Sicce pump to go with this model?
Question by: Arrick Lampkin on Jun 27, 2022, 5:07 PM
That is a great question. The pump linked below is adjustable within the flow ranges for both bacteria and algae. The fact that it is adjustable makes it work well depending on varying situations that may happen in the aquarium. The SDC 9.0 wifi pump (1000-2500gph) will work well with this UV sterilizer but you will need to adjust the fitting sizes to accommodate the 3/4" barb fittings that come with the UV unit to get them to work together. You can do that with adapters for either hard plumbing pvc or a reducing barb fitting.

Hi BRS,
What would be the optimal flow rate for Ich management on this unit? Thanks.
Question by: Ryan C on Apr 21, 2020, 6:02 PM
Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out to us! UV's will not get rid of ich. Ich can only be treated with copper or leave it to die by removing the host fish. Good QT practice is much better ich management than a UV.

Take care!
