Why does BRS recommend this?

Every tank we set up at BRS we make a screen net top for. They will save you a ton of money down the line after you have a few fish jump out of your tank, and you find them on the floor. About half of reef fish will jump high enough to get out of a tank, and unless you are there to get them back in right away, it will most likely end up in a loss. Black netting gives off very little glare while still allowing up to 99% of light through, unlike glass or acrylic.

Black Screen Netting is commonly used in several DIY projects like DIY aquarium screen tops. The black netting has less glare than the traditional clear netting, while still allowing about 99% of light through, unlike glass tops which can block up to 30% of light trying to get through.  Screen Frame is available at almost any hardware store, however, we do stock screen frame and have kits available as well. The 1/4" netting is perfect for tanks with larger fish, and the larger spacing between the netting makes it easy to feed multiple different types of food through without having to remove the top every time you wish to feed your aquarium.
