Product Questions

After a couple of years use iv noticed a leak from where the cup attaches to the neck screw fitting. Is there a replacement o ring or something to remedy this?
Question by: Matt on Feb 6, 2020, 6:36 AM
Hey there!

The o ring can wear out and slowly leak. Here is a link to replacement: https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/skimz-replacement-skimmer-o-ring.html

Can I have Alexa turn off my skimmer only to empty the collection cup using apex fusion and echo dot
Question by: Anthony Williams on Dec 11, 2018, 11:01 PM
If you have your skimmer outlet programmed to be OFF during a specific Feed Mode, you can create an alias that activates the feed mode through Alexa. For example, I create an alias called "Clean Skimmer" which will activate Feed Mode "C" and in the outlet program for my skimmer I have it set to OFF when Feed Mode "C" is activated. Now I just tell Alexa to "Tell Apex Fusion to Clean Skimmer", and the skimmer will shut off.

If i'm running it off of a return pump how will I know i've reached the desired 396 gph required ? Because theflow will be split between to sources?
Question by: Hamish on Dec 24, 2016, 12:45 AM
Great question! The 396GPH is a guideline for recommended flow rating through the skimmer. You don't have to match this flow rating exactly to operate the skimmer correctly. In order to dial in your skimmer, you will need to make minor adjustments between the skimmer feed line, the skimmer gate valve, and the air silencer intake. :-)

This would be my first skimmer, so I assume the outflow of the skimmer would need to be even with the side of the sump? If the outflow is lower then the wall of my sump what are my options?
Question by: Chris on Mar 6, 2016, 2:13 PM
Great question!
As long as the pipe on the outflow is running over the side wall of the sump and back in at a level equal to the water height in the skimmer the water will equalize. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
Answer by: Connor on Mar 9, 2016, 5:20 PM
"Skimmer requires an additional feed pump of 396 GPH"

Do you have any specific recommendations for a feed pump?
Question by: Roger Brown on Feb 4, 2016, 7:16 AM
Great question!
We certainly have a few options available! I have included a link to the Sicce 2.0 which once plumbed in will lose some GPH flow and can be tuned down with a slight control knob.
Additionally I have included a few links to more affordable pumps. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

Great Question Phillip! The SM162 model skimmer will not have a drain hole in the collection cup.
