Protect your tank inhabitants during a power outage or if there is a power interruption. The inexpensive battery powered SAB11 Air Pump provides the much needed aeration for your fish.

  • Detects loss of power and automatically turns on
  • Provides enough air for most aquariums up to 55 gallons
  • Impact resistant design
  • Works great for transporting fish as well

Requires 2 "D" batteries

Ensure the life of your fish with the Silent Air Pump with Battery-Powered Back Up from Penn Plax. Plug in the AC power cord, and when there is a power outage, the Silent Air Pump will automatically flip to battery power.

Power outages are easily one of the top reasons for total tank disasters. During a power outage, water movement comes to a halt and when that happens gas exchange will stop. Over a short time, oxygen levels in the water can become depleted, and your fish can start to suffocate. A battery powered air pump is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to promote gas exchange during a power outage. Using a simple airstone, or even just allowing a free flow of air will help agitate the surface of the water, allowing oxygen to transfer and dissolve into the water.

Almost all battery powered air pumps do make a bit of vibrational noise and placing a shock absorbing pad around the pump or on the surface it is laying on will help minimize the noise.

  • Be sure to occasionally check your batteries
  • NOTE: Power cord does NOT charge the batteries
  • Quickly test the Air Pump by unplugging AC power cord

What's Included?

  • 1 Air Pump with 5 Ft power cord
  • 24" of air line tubing
  • Airstone

Tip - Keep an extra set of batteries on hand

Product Questions

In your video you said the pump has to sit on the rim of the tank, but included is 24" of line. Can this pump be mounted underneath the tank out of site?
Question by: Christian Gates on May 10, 2017, 9:40 PM
Hey there,
It's not required to have the pump mounted to the rim, and you would be fine to locate the pump more out of site, but the pump should never be located below the water line as this could allow a siphon to form which could drain water out of the tank.

Have a great day!

So since this pump is always connected to a power source, I'm assuming that it turns on automatically if power is interrupted? Would this help keep my prized corals alive in my 28g and 10g cubes?thanks.

Great question! You are correct in your assumption that the pump turns on with the battery in the event of power failure. This is a great way of buying some time for smaller systems until the power comes back on:)

Hi Chris,
The sab10 is only battery powered, it does not have the ability to run off a standard owed outlet.
