Filter socks are frequently used on overflow plumbing to help collect and trap free floating debris, excess food, and detritus, improving water clarity and quality. The plastic ring lets you use a number of different styles and brands of filter sock holders in your sump. Using filter socks and changing them regularly odviously helps keep your water clear, but they also help keep debris from entering and ruining your pumps while also preventing detritus from settling in hard to reach places making general cleaning and maintenance easier and quicker. By removing organics and detritus before it has a chance to break down it will directly help reduce the build up of nitrate and phosphate levels.
100 Micron - Great for fine polishing after initial tank set-ups and maintenance. They will clog faster and may need to be frequently changed though.
200 Micron - The most common micron rating used in the industry. They provide a nice balance of polishing capabilities while lasting a few days before clogging.
300 Micron - These are by far the longest lasting filter socks and do not need to be replaced nearly as often as felt filter socks. These are great for holding filter media, extended vacations, or as a backup sock in a series.
Vertex Felt Filter Socks are made of high-quality polypropylene, and can be washed and reused numerous times. We suggest having a few on hand to change out every couple days for the best results.
